![]() ![]() I have to talk about the music, oh my god. It's actually fun just to walk around and see what the neighborhoods look like. Volition did an amazing job with making Stilwater feels so alive, by putting pedestrians that do unqiue activities, depending on which district you're in. The map may look small, but there are so many interiors, secrets, undergrounds, and rewards for exploring that it feels bigger than it actually is. It's small by today standard, but the more you play it, the more you realize how it trumps all over many other game worlds. SR2's world has to be one of the most well designed and immersive open world ever created. Not of them will appeal to you, but chances are high you'll love some of them. These aren't the Ubisoft shitty CTRL + C, CTRL + V types of content, these are actually fun, engaging, and increasingly difficulty with 6 levels for each activities. I'll list out a few side missions: You can do drive bys, spray shit on buildings to decrease their vaule, dress up as a cop and have a camera crew film you as you stop the battle of the century between ninjas and pirates, act as a bodyguard for celebrity and throw any fanatic fans into the engine of an airplane and shredding them to pieces, become a prostitute behind closed doors, take of your clothes, then run around and streak to everyone in the cities, and many more. The story is gripping and absolutely amazing, yet the gameplay is just an insane comedy show.Īnd just like the Yakuza series, the minigames and activities steal the show, there are so many different and unique side missions here. Almost everything you do in SR2 will reward you with more goodies, even moreso with the Gentleman of The Row mod. So much content is added, more vehicles, more clothes, more guns, more everything. New districts, old districts renovated into an entirely new one, and more underground and interior areas. The city is reused from SR1, yet so much is added on top of it. ![]() Serious and insanely nonsensical and funny at the same time, and yet the games somehow manage to keep a perfect balance between the two. The story is an emotional rollercoaster, but the gameplay is a wacky time. When I think of the Yakuza series, I think of smart asset reuse with the hub world, and filling each game with as much content as possible in a small world. But the more I played, the more I started to compare SR2 to the Yakuza series. When I played it last year, I thought Saints Row 2 would be the spiritual successor to GTA San Andreas, my favorite open game of all time. And thanks to that, I was able to finally finish the game.ĭuring this past year, Xenia (Xbox 360 emulator) had some major improvements in the performance, so I was able to play past SR1, and I'm glad I did that, because it gave me a lot more appreciation for the improvements SR2 made. That version, combined with the Gentleman of The Row mod, mostly stablize the PC port. In it, I detailed how a shit PC port prevented me from playing Saints Row 2, which based on my brief time with it, I had an amazing experience.Īfter a year of messing around and fixing the port with mods, I realized I should have gone with the GOG version instead.
